What is Zohar

The Zohar writes that the Divine Presence rests upon the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. It is stated that after the destruction of the Temple, G-d removed His Presence from His sanctuary and placed it upon the Jerusalem Western Wall where it remains in its holiness and honour.

The Zohar (Hebrew "Splendor, radiance") is widely considered the most important work of Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism. It is a mystical commentary on the Torah. It contains a mystical discussion of the nature of God, the origin and structure of the universe, the nature of souls, sin, redemption. good and evil, and other related topics.

The Zohar is a group of books which include scriptural interpretations as well as material on theosophic theology, mythical cosmogony, and mystical psychology.

According to the Zohar, the Hebrew word "kotel" (which means "Wall" ) has a mystical aspect in its own right. When discussing the significance of praying against the Western Wall rabbis cite the Zohar. The word kotel is made up of two parts: "Ko", which has the numerical value of G-d's name, and "Tel", meaning mount, which refers to the Temple, i. e. the Western Wall of Jerusalem. It is written: "Is this the city that men called the perfection of beauty?" (Lamentations 2:15), and "Jerusalem, a city rebuilt by a compact" (Tehilim 122:3). "What shall I make equal to you?" (Eicha 2:13). Just as you sit here, so He sits in Jerusalem on high. Just as the holy nation does not enter below, so I swear that I will not enter above until I enter you down below. This is your consolation - that I equate you with this level, with Jerusalem on high, which is Malchut (Heb. Kingdom) that rules over all".
